From the peak in September to the bottom in December the market fell just over -20%, which is a bear market by definition. A bull market is a situation in which stock prices rise by 20%, usually after a 20% and before another 20% decline. So, to officially be in another bull market the S&P 500 would have to surpass 2807, or up only another 1% from the current levels.
